LMRFC News Feb 2019

Lytchett Minster RFC senior XV finished off before Christmas with a loss to Puddletown RFC  in a game that they could easily have won.  They fell behind early in the game to trail by 14 points but they fought back and overturned the deficit to lead by 3 with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately Puddletown finished the stonger to run out winners 33 – 24.  In the first game back after Christmas they showed signs of rustiness against Blandford and were well beaten.  Hopefully their fortunes will soon change and they have a full set of fixtures through February which many are winnable.

The colts continue to have a good season and after the Christmas break they started the second half of their season with a comfortable victory against Ellingham and Ringwood in preparation for their cup match against Devizes RFC.  The result of that match will determine their remaining fixtures for the remainder of the season.

The other sides in the youth and mini sections have also been in cup action with the U15s narrowly losing to Sherborne in the semi-final of their cup competition and the U12s losig to a strong Bournemouth team.  The U13s lost to Yoevil the previous week but still qualified for the U13 cup round robin stages as runners up in their group.

The mini and youth sections are starting a busy period with Weymouth, Dorchester and North Dorest visiting Lytchett during March if anyone is interested in seeing what the club has to offer.

Between Christmas and the New Year the club held its annual memorial match to honour and remember all our club members who have been taken from us some too soon.  The game which involves players past and present some who travel great distances just to be there for the day was played in great spirit with some exceptional rugby moves.  In the spirit of the day the match ended a draw and all who participated enjoyed the game immensely.  Afterwards all gathered and spent time in the clubhouse catching up with old friends and relating stories both old and new whilst remembering our departed friends.

If anyone is looking to get involved in rugby Lytchett is a family friendly club, offering rugby for all age groups from U6 through to seniors and we are always looking forward to meeting new players of any age and ability to join the family.
